Opto-mechanical Effects in Standard and Multi-core Fibers
Guided acoustic waves Brillouin scattering is used in chemical sensing outside the cladding of standard, unmodified single-mode fibers. The phenomenon is also shown to introduce inter-core cross-phase modulation among multiple cores that are optically isolated. Lastly, the mechanism is employed in locking of opto-electronic oscillators.
